HappilyforMaryDatchetshereturnedtotheofficetofindthatbysomeobscureParliamentarymaneuverthevotehadoncemoreslippedbeyondtheattainmentofwomen.Mrs.Sealwasinaconditionborderinguponfrenzy.TheduplicityofMinisters,thetreacheryofmankind,theinsulttowomanhood,thesetbacktocivilization,theruinofherlife’swork,thefeelingsofherfather’sdaughter—allthesetopicswerediscussedinturn,andtheofficewaslitteredwithnewspapercuttingsbrandedwiththeblue,ifambiguous,marksofherdispleasure.Sheconfessedherselfatfaultinherestimateofhumannature.
