    此書原系英國作家所著，始于一八六六年，一八九七年作家去世，原作中辍，止于貝多芬一八一六年的階段。後由德人HermannDeiters譯成德文，并續著；一九〇七年D氏去世，書又中辍。M.H.Riemann于一九一七年續成，全書五大冊，為研究貝多芬最完備詳盡之作。
