antwithahighlywroughtfancy,withatasteforpathos,withsentimentsmoretender,elevated,unworldly.Indeed,untilanauthorhastriedtodisposeofamanuscriptofthiskind,hecanneverknowwhatstoresofromanceandsensibilityliehiddeninbreastshewouldnothavesuspectedofcasketingsuchtreasures.Meninbusinessareusuallythoughttoprefertherealontrialtheideawillbeoftenfoundfallacious:apassionatepreferenceforthewild,wonderful,andthrilling—thestrange,startling,andharrowing—agitatesdiverssoulsthatshowacalmandsobersurface. Suchbeingthecase,thereaderwillcomprehendthattohavereachedhimintheformofaprintedbook,thisbriefnarrativemusthavegonethroughsomestruggles—whichindeedithas.Andafterall,itsworststruggleandstrongestordealisyettocomebutittakescomfort—subduesfear—leansonthestaffofamoderateexpectation—andmuttersunderitsbreath,whileliftingitseyetothatofthepublic, “Hethatislowneedfearnofall.” CURRERBELL.
