    MYDEARBROTHER,—IcannolongerrefusemyselfthepleasureofprofitingbyyourkindinvitationwhenwelastpartedofspendingsomeweekswithyouatChurchhill,and,therefore,ifquiteconvenienttoyouandMrs.Vernontoreceivemeatpresent,IshallhopewithinafewdaystobeintroducedtoasisterwhomIhavesolongdesiredtobeacquaintedwith.Mykindfriendsherearemostaffectionatelyurgentwithmetoprolongmystay,buttheirhospitableandcheerfuldispositionsleadthemtoomuchintosocietyformypresentsituationandstateofmindandIimpatientlylookforwardtothehourwhenIshallbeadmittedintoyourdelightfulretirement.

    Ilongtobemadeknowntoyourdearlittlechildren,inwhoseheartsIshallbeveryeagertosecureaninterest.Ishallsoonhaveneedforallmyfortitude,asIamonthepointofseparationfrommyowndaughter.Thelongillnessofherdearfatherpreventedmypayingherthatattentionwhichdutyandaffectionequallydictated,andIhavetoomuchreasontofearthatthegovernesstowhosecareIconsignedherwasunequaltothecharge.Ihavethereforeresolvedonplacingheratoneofthebestprivateschoolsintown,whereIshallhaveanopportunityofleavinghermyselfinmywaytoyou.Iamdetermined,yousee,nottobedeniedadmittanceatChurchhill.Itwouldindeedgivememostpainfulsensationstoknowthatitwerenotinyourpowertoreceiveme.
