ThelasttwowordsTiffalwaysaddedtohisprayers,fromasortofsenseofpropriety,feelingasiftheyroundedofftheprayer,andmadeit,ashewouldhavephrasedit,morelikeawhiteprayer.Wehaveonlytosay,tothosewhoquestionconcerningthismannerofprayer,that,iftheywillexaminethesupplicationsofpatriarchsofancienttimes,theywillfindthat,withtheexceptionofthebrokenEnglishandbadgrammar,theywereinsubstanceverymuchlikethisofTiff. TheBibledividesmenintotwoclasses:thosewhotrustinthemselves,andthosewhotrustinGod.Theoneclasswalkbytheirownlight,trustintheirownstrength,fighttheirownbattles,andhavenoconfidenceotherwise.Theother,notneglectingtousethewisdomandstrengthwhichGodhasgiventhem,stilltrustinhiswisdomandhisstrengthtocarryouttheweaknessoftheirs.TheoneclassgothroughlifeasorphanstheotherhaveaFather. Howinnocent,soft,andkind,areallGod'sworks!Fromthesilentshadowsoftheforestthetenderandlovingpresencewhichoursinexiledfromthehauntsofmenhathnotyetdeparted.Sweetfallthemoonbeamsthroughthedewyleavespeacefulisthebreezethatwavesthebranchesofthepinesmercifulandtenderthelittlewindthatshakesthesmallflowersandtremulouswood-grassesflutteringovertheheadsofthemotherlesschildren.Ohthouwhobearestintheeahearthotandweary,sickandfaintwiththevaintumultsandconfusionsofthehauntsofmen,gotothewilderness,andthoushaltfindHimtherewhosaith,"Asonewhomhismothercomforteth,sowillIcomfortyou.IwillbeasthedewtoIsrael.Heshallgrowasalily,andcastforthhisrootsasLebanon."
