Everylittlegirlcaneasilyimaginewhatanextragoodtimeshehaddivingintoaseaoftreasuresandfishinguponeprettythingafteranother,tilltheairwasfullofthemingledodoursofmuskandsandalwood,theroomgaywithbrightcolours,andRoseinaraptureofdelight.ShebegantoforgiveDr.Alecfortheoatmealdietwhenshesawalovelyivoryworkboxbecameresignedtothestateofherbeltwhenshefoundapileofrainbow-colouredsashesandwhenshecametosomedistractinglyprettybottlesofattarofrose,shefeltthattheyalmostatonedforthegreatsinofthinkingPhebethefinergirlofthetwo.

“Ifancyyouwilllikeit,deary,”answeredAuntPeace,lookingupwithasmilefromsomeprettytrifleshewasmakingwithbluesilkandwhitemuslin.
Rosedidnotseethesmile,forjustatthatmomentherunclepausedatthedoor,andshespranguptodancebeforehim,saying,withafacefullofchildishhappiness,
“Lookatme!lookatme!I'msplendidIdon'tknowmyself.Ihaven'tputthesethingsonright,Idaresay,butIdolikethemsomuch!”
“Youlookasgayasaparrotinyourfezandcabaja,anditdoesmyheartgoodtoseethelittleblackshadowturnedintoarainbow,”saidUncleAlec,surveyingthebrightfigurebeforehimwithgreatapprobation.
