“Iexpectshe’llnotonlybeabletobearit,buttobeveryhappy.YoudidnotaskmeifMr.Richardsonwereagood,wise,oramiablemanIcouldhaveansweredYes,toallthesequestions—atleastsoMarythinks,andIhopeshewillnotfindherselfmistaken.”
“But—miserablecreature!howcanshethinkofspendingherlifethere,coopedupwiththatnastyoldmanandnohopeofchange?”
“Heisnotold:he’sonlysixorsevenandthirtyandsheherselfistwenty-eight,andassoberasifshewerefifty.”
